Understanding the purpose of music videos

In my report I will be explaining on the understandings the purpose of music videos. People would watch their favourite music video by going on to YouTube , they can find it by going online and search up the video, the modern day tech are more advance as they can replay anytime they want to, whereas in the late 80s and 90s they would have to watch it on their televisions either on the MTV music channel or the Box music channel; the music video would appear on the channel and play the music with viewers most beloved music and big hits, if they want to play the music they would have to copy the phone number off the televisions and phone the channel up and choose the music video they would want to listen. But now in the modern times, music can be streamed over the internet, apps for music and more developed music channels; they would stream music by having apps like Spotify, Apple music and Deezer, people would consume these music apps so they can be able to stream more music and listen to them for free, however they would need to pay monthly by a certain amount. this has changed over time as the technology have developed this made this generation easier to access to music industry and music video on software and apps. 

Music videos have increased the income for the record company by having artist to promote, trademark and represent the record label company, they sell their music and promote their music by online, YouTube with the music videos and music audio front album if they do not include the music video. There is artist that would own the record label or build the label company, they would call it independent labels, its where they build the company themselves; the independent artist Nipsey Hussle have founded a company All Money In which he uses his vison to create the label company with his independence. He increased the income by selling his merchandise such as clothing lines and hats and sell his music like CDs and putting up music online to be streamed where it would help increase incomes to the label company. 

And music video can have ways to change the audience’s influences on music, mindset and attitudes; I’ve researched on Tupac’s music video ‘Changes’. This has impact on how people would see reality on what’s happening in the world now, in the video it shows the changes in some parts of the country and the neighbourhood where they show images of the events that had happened over in the years; the riot, discrimination, crime and poverty, the purpose of this music video is to show people the events that happened opens everyone’s eyes on to see what’s going on, it shows that we need to make changes into the world and be the better person to take action and make better decision, it would be aimed at young adults and adults, because they would understand the events that is happening.

 Another example is new artist or promotion of artist in a musical direction, would be the Young Money music video ‘Bedrock’. This music video shows the selections of new artist that are in the production; in the video there are some artist that we know in today’s music appear in the Young Moneys video, Drake appeared in the video which makes him a new star at the time and is now recognise in the music industry and is the most recognisable artist in the world, it made the artist change the musical direction and image, where fans are inspired by his music. 

Finally another example is the synergy with another media, this example would be the artist Wiz Khalifa music video ‘See You Again’, the rapper sings with the pop star Charlie Puth who was the new coming artist as the music video was perfect to collaborate with Wiz Khalifa to sing tribute to Paul Walker who was an actor in the Fast and Furious movies, this would be a synergy with the movie as it joins with the music video and previews the movie Fast and Furious 7, the music video would be aimed at the teens, young adult and adults, they would love the music because it relates to the movie. The singer Charlie Puth is an new coming pop singer, as he was featured in the music video, boosted his status as he collaborate with the rapper some fans and viewers wouldn’t see him as a pop star so that no one would ignore his music, but they will give a chance to listen because they recognise him from the ‘See You Again’ music video.
